Hey look -- actual election fraud!

San Francisco police have arrested an election worker but have not recovered 75 ballots he allegedly stole from a polling station, police said Wednesday...

Karl Bradfield Nicholas, 50, of San Francisco left his post at 4:15 p.m. on election day at the station on Knott Court with the ballots and a memory card that recorded the votes cast, said Lt. Lyn Tomioka, a San Francisco police spokeswoman.

Of course, I'm sure that millions of illegal aliens were voting Democratic at the same time, but nobody bothers to report that, right?

Here's and interesting Salon article detailing how the most prevalent voter fraud is actually state-sponsored voter suppression -- challenging the voting rights of residents of low-income minority neighborhoods seems to be the most common tactic. Really, how many people are going to go to the effort of traveling to a civic center to prove that they've got the right to vote?

Also, let's not forget Bush's notorious U.S. attorney firings, which everyone seems to have agreed were motivated at least partially by those attorney's unwillingness to push a political agenda of pursuing spurious claims of Democratic voter fraud.

While actual numbers are shockingly hard to come by, it seems that fewer than a hundred people have been convicted of voter fraud since 2000, and those were individuals who double-voted, voted in the wrong district, etc. Voter fraud just isn't that big a problem. Apparently, the system works.

Odd, right?
